Question

New objects appear on the bottom of everything

Today I was working on a client project and kept having an issue I've never had before. Every new line or object I make goes to the bottom of the layer, sometimes on a wrong layer underneath the one I'm working in, seemingly randomly.

Another example is that I'm copying an object with alt key, and the new object goes underneath the copied object when before it's gone on top.

When copy pasting objects the pasted object appears on a random layer below the layer I copied it from.

I couldnt even use brush tool on a layer I wanted. The lines I drew all appeared somewhere else.

I had a rectangle as background color, locked. The objects, if I managed to make them in the desired layer, would appear underneath the locked layer.

Can anyone recognize what's going on and help?

In the tool panel there is a row of buttons for the drawing mode: Draw in front, Draw in back, Draw inside (it's near the bottom of the panel). Can you check whether the button Draw in front is pressed?

Glad this solved it.

Those buttons have shortcuts applied, so you might have accidentally pressed Shift+D
