New selection mode in Adobe Illustrator 28.3 using E does not work

The new selection mode - using E when selceting objects with the selection tool - does not work. Every object that was just touched has still been selected as usual. I searched for a preference that may exist but could not find one.

I am using the german version of Adobe Illustrator.

Maybe someone has the same problem? Any ideas?

Thanks K

It may not work in a manner that you are used to in Illustrator.

1. Choose a selection tool.

2. Click + drag a marquee.

3. While holding the mouse button down, tap 'E' once to toggle enclosed selection mode (cursor displays brackets)

4. Continue to drag & release.

You have to just hit the E once and not hold it doen permanently. Does that not work? For me it does in the German version.
