I am taking an online course on AI. The instructor has a top tool bar with tools such as, Font, Stroke, Opacity. I hate going to TYPE and individually selecting those options. How can I customize my top tool bar to where I already have those options. He has a Mac, I have windows, If that makes a difference. I just bought AI so I suppose I have the latest version.

Go under the Window Menu to Control. This will activate the Control Panel which you can then dock that across the top. The panel will operate contextually so that what you need will be there when you have the appropriate tool activated. Prior to CC2018 it was docked at the top by default. The new properties panel is now the default but it seems to be missing some of the options of the control panel.

One more thing: The Control Panel is also part of a Workspace in CC 2018 called Essentials Classic. You can choose that or incorporate the Control Panel into a Custom Workspace of your own.
