New to Illustrator and need help - create and reuse symbol

Question

I created the shape of a heart quite successfully, I might add, thanks to an excellent set of steps. I then saved the heart as a symbol. When I copy the symbol to use in another project, it becomes distorted or warped. What step did I miss?

This is how the heart should look. But this is how it pastes into my other Illustrator project.

you can't attach AI files to forum posts. you should use dropbox or whatever equivalent.

Oddly, I was able to create a new layer and the symbols I created could be copied and pasted correctly. Just have to get them added to my user defined library. I'm going to consider this one solved. Thank you for your help and time. And thanks for the dropbox tip.

Can you share a sample .ai file that contains both the right and the wrong hearts?
