I updated the macbookair OS software and the ai version, but I keep getting the same error-

close all other programs because you have run out of ram. it lists that ai is trying to access 60 gb just to open the program. I have 8GB

When I doas instructed, there is no benefit. I still cannot open ai.

Have you tried resetting Adobe Illustrator preferences? It's possible something in the AI Prefs file could have been corrupted. In MacOS you press Option+Command+Shift while Illustrator is loading. If that doesn't work I would try completely uninstalling Illustrator, re-booting and then re-installing the application.

Also, how old is your MacBook Air? I'm just wondering since it has 8GB of RAM. Last summer I replaced an old Dell XPS notebook with 8GB of RAM with a new Alienware X17 model with 64G

I've moved this from the Using the Community forum (which is the forum for issues using the forums) to the Illustrator forum so that proper help can be offered.

Last summer I replaced an old Dell XPS notebook with 8GB of RAM with a new Alienware X17 model with 64GB of RAM and a far more stout graphics board. A number of GPU accelerated features, such as animated zoom, no longer worked in the old XPS. It was a great notebook back when I first bought it. But after nearly a decade it no longer had the muscle necessary to be productive. Various graphics applications are carving out larger performance requirements.

I had to reinstall it. Unfortunately, when this whole thing began, I had a file open, and that file is no corrupted and cannot be opened.

Bummer.

So, this method worked, and I thank you for your help
