Noise or pattern effect

Hello everyone,

 

I'm a newbie there and trying to get some tips & tricks about vecto illustrations tecniques, here's my request:

- How is it possible to get this effect with Illustrator you can see on batman's face (sorry I don't know the name of the artist) ? It seems to be a mix of gradient, noise, and or pattern but I have no clue regarding the process to reproduce this effect.

 

If someone would accept to help me on that, it would be nice.

    Into PSD I think I could do it but regarding the vecto process to change image size without losing anything, I' prefer learn this in Illustrator and I think I found some advices in your link that might help. I'm gonna try them.
