Question

Object > Line and Sketch Art > Expand to Paths remains inactive... Why?

Hello.

A bunch of questions seem to hint at this feature, but never really carry through much further. As a user who really needs single path lines, I of course jumped at the chance of having the ability to convert drawings made in Sketch to editable paths in AI. But the option remains inactive always. What needs to be done in order to use this option? The file from Sketch opens as a fixed image, non-editable .ai file. Where is the problem?

Thanks for any help.

Which Sketch? The mobile app Adobe Photoshop Sketch?

    Hello,

Yes the Adobe Sketch mobile app.

I don't see any other export possibilities other than "Send to Photoshop" and "Send to Illustrator," so I am not sure where any format problems would be arising (Granted I am new to the app though).

The other threads that lament the lack of single strokes in Adobe Draw quickly (and rather sadly) come to a conclusion that this method is "the" way to get around it but I can't get it to work  at all.

    OK will do thanks!

Actually, Adobe Sketch has moved to a raster format from Sketch 3.4 (May 2016 release) onwards with Send to Illustrator. Hence, you would not be seeing the Expand to Paths active.

Without knowing anything about your files we can't really tell you much. Chances are you simply designed them in a way that caused rasterization and hence the Sketch file is merely an encapsulated PNG file with no native vector elements.
