Object Size Does Not Match Object

I am working on a patch design.  I open a new file with measurements of 4x4.  I paste my design in that file and it fits just fine (at least on the screen) within the artboard.  When I look up at the W and H measurements, the H is 3.5 (which is correct) but the W is 227.5417 in.  When I try and change that measurement to 3.5 is just squishes the image into one thin line going up and down.

I don't understand how to fix this or what I did to cause it.  I am pretty sure that this problem is related to the other problem I just posted about not being able to move an object because the system says it will fall off the drawing area.

I know the cause is something I'm doing or did and I would really appreciate your help in figuring this out.

Are there any guides used in the artwork? Sounds like one was pulled from a ruler and is still active. Try clearing Guides and see if this helps.

Can you share this sample Illustrator file?

I would but the previous response gave me the answer for this and my other post.  There sure is a lot to learn.  🙂

That's it.  Thank you so very much.  This program has a very steep learning curve, but little by little, I'm getting it.
