Object turns white (Text within text)

Hi all,

I am trying to create a text within text in Illustrator but the object turns white. Here are my steps:

1. Create a letter about 800pt

2. Go to Object --> Expand (Object and Fill selected) Click "ok".

3. Go Object--> Compound Path --> Release

4. Select Type Tool

5. Click on the Path

***This is where the object turns white and I want it to stay the original color (Black)

Does anyone know what I am doing wrong?

Thanks for your input!

Steve

You're not doing anything wrong. When you click on the path with the Type Tool, the path becomes a type object. If you'd like to keep the fill color of the original shape (the outlined text), then duplicate that shape and place it on a layer below the path that you're using for the text on a path.

You can also just select (only) the path of the type object with the Direct Selection tool and then reapply the original fill colour.
