Oh, WHY?!

Does opening a cloud Illustrator file created on Desktop version cause text to become Outlines w/ no warning to the user when opnened in iPad?  Trying to figure out why a file I've been working on has about half the text as outlines, with now missing formatting (e.g., bulleted list), etc.
