one illustrator file i can't open but others can, and i created it originally

I have an illustrator file that i can't open but others on my team can. I can open other illlutrator files so it seems specific to this file. I had them resave and I can't open that one either. I created this doc originally, was just opening to make edits, so at one time I could open it. I have the fonts etc. I cannot open the .ai file or the .pdf in illustrator that I created last time I saved. Not sure what the fix is. I get endless beachball, application is not responding etc. I have restarted. I can open other illustrator files so it seems to just be this one right now.

Could you confirm which version of Illustrator you're using and the details of your operating system? Also, do you remember which version the file was originally created in?

Let me know where the file is currently saved: on your local hard drive, an external drive, a network location, or in the cloud.

When you try to open the file, what exactly happens? Do you see any error messages, or does Illustrator just keep loading?

If possible, please share the file with us through a public cloud link like Google Drive or Dropbox so we can test it on our end. If the file is confidential, feel free to send it to me via DM here in the community.

Hi There,
any uodate from the file I sent?

I did opend the file on the intel processor with older version of Ai. and re-saved it and still it did not open in my Apple Studio desk top.

Are you trying to open it directly from the Dropbox?

I even uninstuall and reinstal the illustrator but nothing has changed.

Hello @Hamid68,

Would you mind providing some details about the circumstances under which these files were saved or edited and the location of the files where they were stored? For example, were there any unexpected Illustrator crashes, sudden app closures, system shutdowns, or power cuts during the editing process?

 

Also, kindly share a link to a sample file after uploading to Dropbox/Google Drive/etc. so we can check it on our end. Although we cannot guarantee a successful recovery, we will try our best to do so.

Thank you for your reply, there are no crash not error message. I just retried on my other MAC BOOK Pro and reinstall Ai, then I saved and still not opening up on the descktop which is has the lastest OS update and so as the Ai. I can even click on the file and see the thumb naile, it is also show in it on the recent as recognizeed file but is not opening it!!! i will send you the file shortly.

I’m encountering the same issue. I created the file with all fonts and images properly linked, but I’m unable to open it, while others can. I also tested it and found that I can open the file on my laptop, but not on the desktop where I originally created it.

Do you know of any possible solutions?

UPDATE: deleted all the prefs and cache files, still wouldn't open. re-installed all my adobe CS apps and it still doesn't open. at this point i give up.

If the other people save this file under a different name, can you then open it?

someone made edits on it and saved it and i was able to open that. the edits were all proofreader edits, nothing major, but they did save it with a new name. so maybe that was it? don't know why that would affect anything but who knows

Are you running the same version of Illustrator as your team? Does your team  have any custom plugins like Esko UPC codes that you might not have installed?

 

PREFS  RESET MAC (thorough method)

Quit Illustrator

Finder >> Shift Command G

~/Library/Preferences/Adobe Illustrator 27 Settings/en_US*/Adobe Illustrator Prefs

rename Adobe Illustrator 27 to Adobe Illustrator 27old

I will have to ask if they have the same version of illustrator that I have. I am running Adobe Illustrator 2022 26.0.3

I did as you suggested,  renaming prefs (26 not 27), and it didn't fix anything. same problem.

I don't think i have an custom plugins, i'll see if there's any installed

Did you already reboot the computer?

Is the file on your local harddrive? If not, copy it there and try again.
