This continues to happen randomly since upgrading to os Sequioa and it requires a full hard restart.  Wasting hours on restarts and losing work.

Illustrator 29.2.1

Macos Sequioa 15.2

Mac Studio

M2 MAx

64GB

crossing fingers for you

I went an entire day yesterday without the crash.

My best guess is that the Mac os Sequioa issues a dialogue for allowing third party apps to access storage and external storage.  I finally got that approval window to come up for Illustrator (no idea why it didn't pop up first thing).  Once I approved Illustrator's access, the finder crashing stopped.

I believe you can pre-empt the crashing by going to settings:

navigate to System Settings > Privacy & Security > Files and Folders, then select the specific Adobe app and enable access to the desired locations on your external storage device

Perhaps someone could verify this?  Not much info on this out there that i could find.

Thanks for all of your help Monika!

I have the same problem with the Mac Studio M1 Max and Illustrator 30.4. I have truly never experienced this before, but since version 30.4 the "Open and Save" panel keeps freezing!

I have literally tried everything, but the only option is to open "Activity Monitor", search for Illustrator there, and then force-stop the "Save Action" without losing my work.

The only option left for me is to uninstall and reinstall Illustrator? Very frustrating overall, and I think Adobe's focus right now is too much on AI rather than developing a stable version of their software. I easily lose about 1 hour per day to error messages and crashes.

I should mention that I often work with large and heavy files, but it should never happen that this costs you an hour of lost time every single day!

The screenshot is in Dutch, but I think everyone here will understand it! 😅

Hello @egonb5088883

I'm sorry to hear you're having similar trouble with Illustrator. Would you mind trying to run Illustrator after rebooting your computer in Safe Mode ( https://support.apple.com/guide/mac-help/start-up-your-mac-in-safe-mode-mh21245/mac) and under a different admin account (https://support.apple.com/guide/mac-help/add-a-user-or-group-mchl3e281fc9/mac) and checking if the problem persists?

Looking forward to your response.

Sharing this as this was an issue for me for years and I was just able to resolve it today.

kchai007's solution was what finally resolved this issue for me.

Sequoia: System Settings > iCloud > Drive > Sync this Mac (Turn to Off)

Sonoma: System Settings->Apple ID->iCloud->iCould Drive, click to disable it.

For some reason having iCloud Drive turned on is causing the Open and Save Panel Service to not respond on the mac freezing the Finder in the process. Turning off iCloud Drive seems to be the only solution that successfully worked for me.

I'm not aware of a general issue with an M2 (I have one myself, but just not with Sequoia). So it could be an issue with the new operating system, but there hasn't been a flood of issues either.

Does that happen immediately after opening the dialog box or only after you have clicked OK (in which case it could be an issue with the printer and it's settings).
