I'm trying to make a radio knob for a logo and the copy does not let me outline it.

I don't think my Illustrator is working the way it should. I'm on an iMac OS X Yosemite 10.10.5 4GB.

I can't seem to do the Outline of a Circle not TEXT OUTLINES.

Thank you !Circle-outline.jpg

You want to add a stroke to it?

Please show your layers panel. We need to see what kind of object that is.

Also: what exactly have you been trying step by step?

We need to know what you did, not what you were supposed to do.

Ok, I drew the circle then copy it and place it in front then.

I used the off path as it says in the tutorial to get the stroke

but it does not happen and I've tried many times.

Off path = offset path?

To get a stroke on your path all you need to do is assign a stroke.

How to apply strokes in Illustrator

You can also apply gradients to strokes if that's what you want to do.

If it's a special stroke that you want to achieve, please show a screenshot of the intended result.

That tutorial does not use strokes. Instead it uses two circles, one smaller than the other with the smaller one on top, and then subtracts the smaller circle from the larger circle using the Pathfinder > Minus Front command. The result looks like a stroke, but it is not. It is a filled shape.

The tutorial moves rather quickly so you may need to pause it periodically to see exactly what is going on.
