Outline several objects for a die cut sticker

Hi,

I'd love to get some help to create an outline around the objects and text shown below to indicate how a sticker should be cut out.

I don't want a rectangle shape, but a circle at the top combined with a rectangle with rounded corners at the bottom. I can't seem to combine the objects in a way that makes it work for me.

I've tried with Stroke, Pathfinder, Add, and several other methods but I am getting nowhere.

 

Any help is greatly appreciated!

If you need just a circle on top and a rounded rectangle in the bottom, you can just draw a bigger circle around the top part and a rounded rectangle around the text (increase the sizes according to your idea).
Then select these shapes and unite them by Pathfinder.

Uf you need the complex shape, follow the Monica's advice. As far as I can see, you've reached the 3rd line (outline all strokes etc.). Then come to Object menu and set Offset (Object >Path > Offset Path), set the size which you need.

Then unite the offsets. To avoid any internal holes, you can also create a circle on top (to overlap the ornam) and a rectangle on bottom (to overlap holes in/between letters). Unite them with the offsets.

The cut line will work better if you put it on the separate layer and stroke by some simple color (100% Cian or Magenta). Then the cutting team will have no chance to miss it 🙂

I figured it out! It was a combination of what you mentioned, Anna, and some learning about how to cut lines and reconnect paths. I'm happy enough with the end result!

Duplicate the layer(s) with the objects.

Lock the original layers

Outline all strokes, all text, all effects

You might need to apply offset path to some objects.

Then use Pathfinder "Unite" from the pathfinder panel.

 

This could all also be applied to the objects (respectively the grouped objects) as a live appearance, but you need it to actually cut, right?

Thanks, I tried what you mentioned and I end up with this.

 

I'm clearly not understanding or missing a step somewhere....

And yes, I need to make an outline so they know where to cut.
