Output to Flexi

Anyone here use Illustrator to create bleeds for output to Flexi for contour cuts? Is there a best practice for this? My company is having the designers handle more of the prepress work before it's sent to the production floor, so I'd like to know if there's a tried and true method.

 

 Along the same lines — why are Pantone outputs to Flexi so terrible? Should I stick to CMYK/process color?
