overlapping lines in pattern

New Here ,
Oct 10, 2019 Oct 10, 2019

hello,  i've created a pattern with no fill colour but with a coloured outline only.  This, however, shows all the overlapping lines of the pattern.   Is there a way to get rid of the overlapping lines without using a fill colour?  I trying to create a logo to be screen printed onto a  tshirt so i want to use as less colours as possible.  thanks in advance.

If you want this to look like the example on the left, then you will need to either apply fills, cut the lines apart or use knockout groups. Which one do you prefer?

I'd like to try the 2 methods other than the fill colour as I don't want to use too many colours for the logo... (I want to add writing and a drawing on later).

what do i need to do please.

Cutting is obvious: use the scissors tool and off you go. The knockout group: you will need to apply fills. Then set the opacity of those fills (and just the fills) to 0% (in the appearance panel). Then apply the swatch and set the object that has the swatch to "Knockout group" (in the transparency panel)
