Question

Paintbrush turns gray and won't allow me to set a stroke color

I'm trying to use the paintbrush tool with a watercolor effect. I have the stroke color set to a skin tone and the fill color set to no fill. When I make the stroke, it first appears with the stroke color I selected, then quickly turns gray. I checked the settings in the color window, it is set to CMYK. I also tried setting it to RGB, but it's still converting to gray. My settings are not set to gray scale.

I also tried setting the fill color, but this turns to black. The stroke turns to gray and the fill turns to black. It's odd because the color picker shows the colors I selected, but on the artboard, the stroke and fill turns gray and black. When I try the paintbrush tool without the watercolor effect selected, the colors are working properly. Is there a setting I'm not doing correctly for the watercolor effect?

You apply the color to the stroke when using brushes. The watercolor presets if you are using those come in grey colored, so they will mute the color down (e.g.: 50K will make you colors 50% of what the amount are). Maybe you are trying a occur lighter than mine, not sure what color values you are using or what the brush name is.

What kind of brush? Where did you apply the Watercolor Effect?

Pleas show a selected brush stroke and the Appearance Panel.
