Paste in place from another file

Community Beginner ,
Jan 19, 2017 Jan 19, 2017

I'm working with two different files.
I need to copy an image from one file and paste it instead of an image that is already in the second file. Is this possible?

Meaning I need to replace the image in the second file and keep it in the same place.

Thanks in advance

Yes, as long as both files matched to begin with.

  1. "Copy" (Cmd/Ctrl-C) content from file 1.
  2. "Past in Place" (Shift-Cmd/Ctrl=V) in file 2.

There are actually three key commands that remember relative position: "Paste in Front", "Past in Back" and "Paste in Place".

rcraighead, I know this command but it works if I want to paste the image in the same place as it was in it's original file.

I'm trying to paste it in the same place as my second image in the second file, "replacing" it sort of.

If the files are built the same (page size, etc.) it will still work. If not, you'll need to use "snap" or, if there is no overlapping points you might temporarily add one so you can easily snap it into place in the second file. Does that make sense?

My internet connection is poor today. "Edit" post is not working.

A better option than "adding" a temporary element is to simply copy a portion that also exists in the "receiving file". Then you have an easy way to register it once it's pasted.
