Greetings, I create maps using Illustrator. My process goes from editing in CAD, opening the .dwg in Illustrator, then adding relavent data or layers to my .ai file.
The issue I am having is that when I am adding new data from CAD that has the same layer name as one that is already existing in my .ai file, Adobe gives me this prompt, "You are attempting to paste or drag into one or more layers that are locked or hidden. Do you want to unlock and show all appropriate layers?"
My options are, 'Yes' or 'No'. If I hit 'Yes' the stuff I am trying to paste gets lumped into a layer I don't want them in, then I have a rough time going in and fixing it. If I hit 'No' it cancels the paste. I want to hit 'No' becuase I don't want to unlock ANY layers, I want the new data to be on their own layer. This makes total sense to me, but that 'No' button actually needs to be a 'Cancel' button, or give me the option to paste data to new layers with the same layer name.
Maybe there is a setting for this to turn off, but I can't find one. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks,

Try and turn off "Paste remembers layer" in the panel menu of the layers panel.

Thank you, but that wont work either, it just adds all my data to one single layer with hundreds of lines and polys. I need to keep my layers intack, just not added to the existing layers.
BTW, all my layers are locked with the exception of one, becuase I don't want anything added to them automatically.

Maybe someone knows of a script that can do what you want. But I guess you would need to be more clear about what exactly you want.
