Path isn’t aligned to Brushstroke

Explorer ,
Oct 23, 2025 Oct 23, 2025

I'm having a problem with path alignment. I'm using the Brushstroke, and with several of Illustrator's default brushes, the strokes aren't aligning with the path.

I've Restarted Illustrator, Restarted my computer, Update to the latest Illustrator version and Reset Illustrator's preferences, but the problem persists.

I can't answer regarding the CPU Preview (Ctrl+E) because, as I said earlier, the problem resolved itself.

Looks like you are using a Large Canvas Document.

If you create a new document and create it based on a Print or Art & Illustration preset and copy/paste the brushstrokes into it, does it go away?

No, it's a small 1000x1000px canvas, and the problem is not happening today. I also tested it with a document containing 100 canvases of 1000x1000px, and the problem doesn't occur there either.

So it solved itself?

Even with a small artboard, your document can be a Large Canvas Document.

You can check that with zooming in as far as you can.

Zoom to the maximum zoomlevel, if it is 6400%, you are using a large canvas document, if it is 64000% it is a regular size document.

Yes it solved itself.

Is this what you're referring to: https://helpx.adobe.com/ca/illustrator/using/large-sized-artwork.html ? In my case, I don't get the "large-sized canvas" warning when I create it.

No matter the canvas size I believe my paths should not disalign themselves.

Next time I have this issue what can I do to solve it?

Yes, that is about Large Canvas documents. And the problem you have with offset brush strokes is a known problem for those documents.

Another cause could be the GPU Preview, changing that to CPU Preview can also "solve" the problem.
