Pathfinder crop with a grain texture

Hi, I'm a beginner, so my question might sound stupid. I'm making a pattern and having trouble with it. What's the correct way to use the Pathfinder Crop tool if I have a grain texture? The grain seems to disappear after cropping. Thanks.

Does this mean that I don't really need to crop it? I watched some tutorials, and from my understanding, this is used for making swatches.

You don't need to crop it. You need the invisible rectangle.

Can you share a sample Illustrator file with some further instructions?

Sure, but it says "Correct the highlighted errors and try again. The attachment's shape warping problem.ai content type (application/postscript) does not match its file extension and has been removed.". There is a dropbox link:

So, if you select layer "1" and "2" and press Crop from Pathfinder - grain disappears

You've got opacity masks in there. Those just don't work with pathfinder functionality.

Why do you want to drop at all? You could just create the invisible rectangle and make the pattern.
