Paths after image trace

Explorer ,
Jun 28, 2025 Jun 28, 2025

So, iknow paths are usually blue by default. But when I did an image trace on two different PNGs in two different documents, one gave me blue paths, the other gave me red? Ar least I think it’s red (I have vision issues). Definitely not blue. Only have one layer. Even expanded and ungrouped. Still not blue.

Paths are shown in the color you have assigned to the layer in the layers panel. Double click the layer and then you can set the options.

I’m away from my computer right now, but I did try to double-click the later. Well, actually, the little square on the right side of the layer and the thumbnail. Didn’t do anything. Can’t even right click in the layer panel.

Double click the thumbnail. It needs to be the layer you are double clicking, not an object, not a group.

I don't know what's happening here. Top hand is traced and placed from another document.

Need to retrace for stroke to work, but trace does this.

Can you list exactly what you did here step-by-step?

Well, I opened the png, traced (default settings) and expanded, deleted white parts, and saved as an AI file. Closed the document and did the same fora bunch of similar PNGs.

I’m trying to match line thickness b mm ing a font using Fontself. So,I opened a blank document, placed the AI files I saved earlier on new layers., scaled so they’re the same size. Stroke weight doesn’t do anything, looks like I have to trace ande again. So, trace, and BAM! it’s all messed up.

Is your issue that some of the lines are not showing and the nail is filled black? If so, what happens if you lower the threshold and noise settings? You could try playing around with the different settings to get closer to what you want.

You cannot compare those 2 screens.

The top one does not have Preview checked, so you don't see the tracing result.

The bottom one has totally different trace settings.
