Pattern/File not saving properly :(

Hi there,

Illustrator newbie so thanks in advance for the patience.  Using Illustrator CC and working on creating a logo that contains a scarf.  I've created a 'tartan' swatch to use as a repeated pattern to fill the shape I've created for the scarf.  In Illustrator the pattern appears normal and as it should however when I save the file both as a PDF and a .ai file the pattern isn't completed, almost as if bits have been left out.  Have previously saved an identical (except for colours) pattern and had no problems with the save.
