Pattern Vector Images ?

Very new to illustrator. Made pattern over 18*40 inch but it is single layer image. Wanted to convert to vector with path and all 4 saperate layers for 4 seperate colours.

Plz help with detailed steps with proper terminology.

It's not on a single layer. It's a pattern used as a fill for an object. So all you see is the object.

To convert the pattern into single objects you will need to expand the pattern. Object > Expand.

What you have to do afterwards depends on how the pattern has been built. You will probably have to release some (lot of) groups and clipping masks. In order to clean up you might have to delete a few things. You might have to use pathfinder functions. In order to use them you will have to convert som

Please use the layers panel to analyze the artwork after expanding.

Please read the documentation to understand Illustrator's objects and how to handle them.

If you need to accomplish this quickly, you should look for an introductory training in your area that gets you on path.

As I said: first step is to expand.

But after that it completely depends on how the pattern has been built.

You could try the following:

After expanding:

Select all

Object > Flatten transparency (check "Outline strokes")

Pathfinder panel: "Merge"

Create the layers you need

With direct selection click on one of the elements

Select > Same > Fill

Move to layer

Repeat for all other colors

Then delete what's left
