Maybe a rookie mistake

Worked in Illustrator and had artwork and ideas off the artboard

and mistakenly worked in a pdf file

when it was closed it was saved as a pdf file

how do Access the artwork that is not on the artboard ?

you brows and see the ideas (on the screenshot attached) but when openened in Illustrator it is not there?

maybe it is gone forever?

thank you

Correct answer Monika Gause

It's gone.

If you save without "Illustrator editing capabilities", then elements outside the artboard will be deleted.

Do I understand you well that you don't see the out-of-artboard objects in Acrobat?
So what do you see when you open the file in Illustrator?
