Hello everyone! Ī™ have a pdf file, i want to make some changes and I open it in illustrator.

I don't get the message "This document has been modified outside of Adobe Illustrator", but in illustrator it's not exactly the same file, it has differences. The differences are not necessary that big so that i can trace them easily, i have to cross check. For example there are different numbers in some places or a box have been moved in another place.

The file has been created from Adobe Illustrator CC 23.1 (Windows), i use Adobe Illustrator 28.5 (Macintosh).
Do you know why this may happen and how i could avoid from making changes in a wrong files?

Could you provide a screenshot showing exactly what is happening? Please indicate what changes in the PDF when it's opened.

Has the file been created in Illustrator?

The message says that the PDF part of the file is different than the AI part. Did you change it in Acrobat or another app?

Here's how Illustrator saves files: https://youtu.be/IpDh8Y7q8yE

Illustrator has a special way of saving native files. You should know this in order to be able to set the correct options and to recover some of your artwork when things go wrong. More info about saving files in Illustrator Saving safely: http://vektorgarten.de/illustrator-saving-safely.html ...

The pdf file is not mine, it's from other user. I took it in order to resize it. But when i open there are the differences i show you above, at the pic.

As i can see from the info, the pdf file has been created in Adobe Illustrator CC 23.1 (Windows), i use Adobe Illustrator 28.5 (Macintosh).

I don't get any message when i open it in illustrator (like "This document has been modified outside of Adobe Illustrator", so as to know and to select the option).

When you create a new Illustrator file and then File > Place the AI file, is the result the same as in Acrobat?

So then you need to use that procedure with the placed file.

Using that you force Illustrator to open the PDF part of the file.

Downside: it's not fully editable.

Option: Open the AI normalle and then edit it to match the PDF.

Also: educate your clients to not edit an AI file in Acrobat or any other PDF editor.

I was hoping for a hint/tip or something to avoid opening the pdf in previous status without some warning in illustrator, because it's not that easy to educate every client.

Thank you for your time!

I assume that when you bill them for the extra work, your clients will learn this pretty fast.
