I use a Surface Book stylus pen to draw on my touchscreen using Illustrator. Typically the cursor, while the stylus pen is engaged with the screen, is a small white dot. Now, after I have selected the pencil tool from the toolbar and move the cursor to the artboard, it displays the pencil with an asterisk rather than the small white dot. This just started happening 4 days ago. While I am starting a new line as the asterisk would indicate, this was not the typical cursor while drawing with a stylus pen. Using the stylus while the cursor is a pencil has slower responsiveness and accuracy than when it was a white dot.
I have reset preferences. Caps lock is not turned on. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the app.
I had this issue once before 8 months ago, but unfortunately I do not remember the resolution the technician gave me over the phone. However, it was definitely a resolution within the Illustrator app and not with the stylus pen.
How do I get back the small white dot and not the pencil cursor?

Hi there,
Sorry about the trouble. Could you please confirm if you are using Touch Mode workspace or any other regular workspace?
If it is Touch Mode workspace, then the pencil tool will appear as a precise cursor (Asterisk). To disable it, go to Edit Menu > Preferences (ctrl + k) > Touch Workspace > Uncheck "Use Precise Cursors".
Let us know if this is the case and it helps you out.
I will be looking forward to your response.
Thanks & Regards,
