PNG and profiles are problematic in Illustrator and Photoshop.

Illustrator does not write or read a profile in a PNG file.

It uses the color numbers from the document when exporting and assumes the current profile when placing.

Photoshop sometimes reads the profile and sometimes warns the a png file does not support profiles.

Photoshop does not save profiles in a PNG file, but does save the profile when Save for Web is used.

It is a mess.

JPEG, TIFF or PSD are safer when you want the profiles embedded and used.
