Place Shortkey (Shift+Ctrl+P) No Longer Working

Community Beginner ,
Jun 13, 2022 Jun 13, 2022

All of my other shortkeys are working (ctrl+o, ctrl+s, ect), except the one I need in order to do all my work. Shirt+Ctrl+P. It only works when I manually click it in the File drop down menu, but when I try to do the shortcut it does nothing. I can uninstalled, reinstalled, tried different versions, restarted my computer, went into keyboard shortcuts (not the correct place tool I'm working with). I'm at a loss for what to do at this point after working at it for hours.

All help and advice is appreciated!

Thank you,

Jacky

I did find (somewhat of) a solution, I found where to change the menu commands in the keyboard shortcuts menu and changed it the CTRL+P instead since I never print anything on this computer anyways. I still have no idea what caused this issue in the first place, but at least I can get back to work! Woohoo!

Similar things may happen if there is some other application running that may hijack the shortcut for whatever reason. Sometimes it's just a browser plugin or some "helper" applications that try to enhance the clipboard functionalities or something else.

You may check that. That is, close all applications but Illustrator and see what happens then.

I have tried this with all my visible programs, but I'm wondering if it's something running in the background. Problem is when I open my task manager there are so many, and I don't want to end a program that's important without realizing. Do you have any suggestions? Thank you fo your reply!

Is it in use by your system or by some system extension?

Honestly I have no clue, I uninstalled any new programs since this just stopped working this week, but no luck. I did find a solution, I found where to change the menu commands in the keyboard shortcuts menu and changed it the CTRL+P instead since I never print anything on this computer anyways, lol.

This is not the correct solution! It is a poor work around.

Hello @Reed26468743w3qo,

Would you mind sharing more details, like the version of the OS/Illustrator installed, and if this happens intermittently when using another program with Illustrator, so I can better assist you?

Also, try running Illustrator under Safe Mode (Windows / macOS) and share your observations.

Looking forward to hearing from you.
Anubhav
