Placed bitmap tiffs no longer working

Placed bitmap tiffs are no longer working for me. When I place the image it looks correct but when I move it around, add a mask, try to change color, etc. it inverts it or fully glitches the image. See attached.

 

Any help is much appreciated!

That is a workaround, before the update to 28.5 it worked fine with GPU (it still works on the same system in previous Illustrator versions).

Does that look differently when you go into View > Preview on CPU?
