Plugin error messages with AI CC 2015.3.1?

New Here ,
Aug 31, 2016 Aug 31, 2016

I've been using this version of AI on my Mac Pro OS X El Capitan and it was working fine until last night. Now it will only allow me to open it in SafeMode with plugins Experimentation.aip and OnBoarding.aip disabled. There's also another error window that shows up and lists plugins JPEGFormatUI.aip, PNGFileFormat.aip, SmartExportUI.aip and svgFileFormatUI.aip as also having problems. I've looked in my Illustrator folder under applications and there are no plugins listed, just a txt file. I originally purchased the software and get the updates through Creative Cloud. So I uninstalled it through Creative Cloud and reinstalled it. Same error messages come up. I shut down and restarted. Same error messages. Anyone else experiencing this and what do you suggest? I can work in AI in SafeMode but this makes me nervous.

I've been having the exact same issue. I hope a fix is worked out soon; it's super dodgy to have to work in Safe Mode with a bunch of plugins disabled.

Hi Barry,

I want to have a look at the issue. If it is possible for you to join a connect session so that I can isolate this further then please drop an email to ShareWithAI@adobe.com.

Also please do mention the time along with the time zone.

Thanks & Regards,

Raghuveer

Well, here is what I did and it seems to have put me back on the track of no error messages when I open AI now. When I got the error message last night, I clicked the Experimentation.aip and OnBoarding.aip boxes (instead of leaving them disabled) and then at the bottom of the big message box it highlighted Launch in Illustrator (some wording like that) and so I clicked on it and it opened fine and not in Safemode. Now it is opening up fine and you can see the initializing of the plugins. Hope that works for you.

Same fix worked for me too. (Check the two checboxes and select reactivate on relaunch). This didn't work on the first day, so maybe you need to restart the system once before this works.

I forgot to mention. I did a settings reset by keeping cmd alt and shift pressed while opening Illustrator. This was yesterday. The problem persisted.

Then I checked the checkboxes today, and it didn't happen again. Now Illustrator seems to start up normally.

Hi there, thanks a lot. It worked for me!

As anandprahlad mentioned, here are the steps I followed:

  1. Start Illustrator with Command + Alt + Shift pressed;
  2. Check the boxes to enable Experimentation.aip and OnBoarding.aip on relaunch;
  3. Click Enable;
  4. Quit and restart Illustrator.

Hope you all get luck with this!

Checking the two boxes had no effect for me.

However, I uninstalled and deleted preferences, then reinstalled Illustrator from CC. So far so good after the reinstall.

I'm having the same issue, and it just started today. I just launched and used Illustrator last night with no problems. I tried checking the box and launching a k ruhl described, which worked but it was in Safe mode. When I tried to relaunch I got the same error messages the first time, then the second time was prompted to launch diagnostics again. Diagnostics did not give me the plug-in error that time and continued to launch, after another "The operation cannot complete because of an unknown error. [CANT]" error.

So the pattern now is that it crashes the first time I try to open it, then prompts to Run Diagnostics on the second attempt, after which it opens normally. The unknown error comes up both times.

Nope, all running smooth now.

I can't remember if it was opening an older format file that triggered off the issue, but for all the new files I've been working on, things have been A-Ok.

More detail

I am using a MacBook PRO running Yosemite 10.10.5 and Adobe CC 2015 apps including Adobe Illustrator 2015.3.

A typical workflow for my group is to convert InDesign files into EPS files then open the EPS in Illustrator and convert them to BMPs. We have been doing this for many years using various versions of Mac OS and Adobe InDesign and Illustrator.

Yesterday while working remotely but with the files on my desktop, I dragged an EPS file as I normally do onto the AI icon on my Dock. I don't remember right now if AI was already open or not. I typically have my computer start up automatically opening InDesign but not AI but I have both icons permanently on the dock.

As soon as I dragged the EPS file onto the AI icon, I go the following error.

              Screen Shot 2016-10-24 at 2.44.44 PM.png

At first I thought this was funny because AI is telling me it "CAN'T" do something . . . something it has been doing for many years. So I sent the error message to my co-workers telling them was the best worded error message I've ever seen. Much better than some Error code number.

However, my humor quickly wore off when I was unable to get my work done.

Next it prompted me to run a Diagnostic which I did. It warned me that it would open and close AI each time. Which is what it seemed to do very quickly and it presented the same CANT error message each time.

         Screen Shot 2016-10-24 at 2.50.57 PM.png

             Screen Shot 2016-10-24 at 2.52.06 PM.png

I clicked on the two Plug-in checkboxes to Disable them because I have no idea what they do and have never heard of them. In any case, I also selected the "Enable on Relaunch" button so they would be enabled later.

Running thru the scenario above, I was eventually able to get my work done. But then later in the day when I needed to make one more BMP, I was presented with the same CANT error message and had to run the Diagnostic again.

This morning I am in the office and not working remotely. As a test, I have tried several different ways of brining an EPS into AI to see if I still have the problem. So far I have not had the CANT or any other error message.

- Opened AI, went to File / Open to open my EPS. No problem.

- Dragged the EPS onto the open AI icon on my Dock. No problem.

- Dragged the EPS onto the Closed AI icon on my Dock. No problem.

Yesterday I asked my colleagues and none had ever seen the CANT message or had any problems dragging EPS files into AI. I asked the same question of a colleague who works at a different company and uses Windows, not Mac. She does the same EPS thing, dragging it into AI all the time without issue.

Hi, I have been having that similar problem since about the 31 of August and still can't work it out. I need Illustrator to work 100% asap as I am working for myself and it's it's the main software I use. Is Adobe working on some solution?

Same issue here only the Experimentation.aip is my only issue. Did what was recommended above. Clicked on the "disabled" box, then click on "Enable on Relaunch", close Illustrator and re-launch ... Does not open in Safe Mode. Not sure why it worked but it did.

Hi,

I have the same issue. Tried all solutions proposed here, including reinstallation, so far it did not work and remains the same issue with the external modules Experimentation.aip and OnBoarding.aip.

Hi,

I found a temporary tip to avoid starting in Safe Mode. However this is not a satisfying solution on longer term as I have no clue what the Experimentation.aip external module is used for (I'm an occasional user of Illustrator)

Using the terminal I've renamed the Experimentation.aip module directory using the following cmd: move "/Applications/Adobe Illustrator CC 2015.3/Adobe Illustrator.app/Contents/Required/Plug-ins/Extensions/Experimentation.aip"  "/Applications/Adobe Illustrator CC 2015.3/Adobe Illustrator.app/Contents/Required/Plug-ins/Extensions/Experimentation.old"

Then restarted Illustrator, it worked fine.

Remark: I have yet not tested to see if some functions are missing. The previously reported faulty OnBoarding.aip module was not existing in the Plugins-Ins Extensions directory...

While waiting for a proper solution from Adobe, I hope it helps.

BR,

CH

Same issue here.

I don't know if this might be of any relevance, but after changing display resolution on my MBP it worked fine.
