Polish Characters Adobe Illustrator 2021

Hi all,

I'm using the glyphs window to type in various languages, however, I notice a lot of the Polish characters are missing from the glyphs panel. Can anyone advise on an alternate way to access them, or a location where there might be additional glyphs? Thank you!

OpenType Pro fonts have support for the Polish language.

Would help if we knew if you are on mac or windows, and how many characters you need to type.

First use like OpenType Arial or Garamond which have the polish characters. Old type1 version of fonts might not have all the characters.

If just a few, copy and paste from this page (scroll down to the table)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polish_alphabet

if the font has then you will get that characters

ł - this one is most often missing in many fonts

ń ąthe accent and ogonek charachters are in other languages so that you usually find in most fonts

You can also use this webpage

https://polish.typeit.org/

You can also type in the unicode

https://altcodeunicode.com/alt-codes-for-polish-letters-with-accents-or-diacritics/

https://altcodeunicode.com/alt-codes-for-polish-letters-with-accents-or-diacritics/

If you have lots of polish to type, you will want to look at installing the polish version of Adobe suite and changing your keyboard layout using your control panel. Or you can also look into how to type using the unicode.

In summary there is not just one best way, there are many methods for getting foreign characters.

Thank you so much for your thorough answer. I am on a mac using gotham HTF book. From what I can tell, I am missing the following characters:

Ż Ć Ś Ź Ą

I actually have the Ł

I will try your solutions above. Thank you!

Not all fonts have glyphs.

So in theory, I would need to find a similar font that comes with Polish characters?

That would be a good option.

Is your selected font supposed to have these characters?

also, how can I tell which glyphs it's supposed to have? Sorry - typography is not my primary area of expertise 😃

If you get fonts from a good type foundry those will tell you which languages are supported. You can even search for it. For instace at Fontsquirrel: https://www.fontsquirrel.com/fonts/list/language/polish

You just have to watch out for that. When in doubt, contact the font foundry and ask for that information.

Thank you so much! This is so helpful!
