Preserving size and location when relinking in AI

I am having an issue where when I relink a psd into illustrator the size is shrunk ever so slightly as well as the position being slightly offset. Is there any way to overcome this?

*After further testing this only seems to be happening when I embed a psd with multiple layers and select the option to convert layers to objects, and then attempt to relink the object.

**After further investigation this seems to happen due embedding the image results in a discrepancy between the bounding box and the size of the original embedded images canvas size.

Please clarify:

1. You are not resizing your original psd in photoshop in any way, correct? Canvas sizes are all the same?

2. Is there a reason you are not simply updating the link but choosing to relink?
