Preventing Properties Panel from Automatically Opening When Adding Text within Illustrator for iPad

Folks,

Have you figured out a way to prevent properties panel from automatically opening when adding text to a drawing within illustrator for iPad?  I don't believe that panel automatically opens when other tools are used -- you have to click on the properties icon.  When working with text, I find I'm constantly closing the automatically-opened panel so that I can see more of my drawing.

Any input would be appreciated.
