I just installed Illustrator on my computer for the first time ever, opened a new document, and the preview window does not render at all, it's just black. No rulers, no artboard. The rest of the program works perfectly fine, but I can't see what I'm working on which as it turns out is pretty important if I want to get anything done. I've looked into a few preferences windows, some view options, and tried googling it but couldn't find anything on it. I reinstalled which did not fix the problem. The only time the preview window actually renders is if I'm dragging the preview with my mouse, but as soon as I release it turns black again.

You may need to update your graphics driver.

Try View>Preview on CPU and see if that helps.

It seems to have no effect. I've also checked the GPU settings, it is using the correct GPU and not integrated graphics, and turning off GPU performance mode does not fix it either.
