Problem with Applying Gradient to Outlined Stoke Object

I want to apply a gradient color to the text below, but after trying to click the gradient it will have the problem on the upper 'l' part of the text where the blank space is supposed to be blank but got affected by the gradient, but I didn't have this exact problem on the 'e' letter, for example.

And this is how the layer looks like in the Illustrator. I tried to do the Minus Front option from the Pathfinder, but it doesn't have any effect!

Can anyone help? Thank you.

it should be part of the compound path. You can also use Shift Command D to toggle view transparency, which will help you troubleshoot before applying the gradient.

You can click on the radio button to the right of the path layer name in the layers palette to select the path.
