Problem with Illustrator Loading after every move I make? Help.

Hello!

So, I'm new to the community. And, I'm new to Illustrator. I've been using Photoshop for over 10 years and it's been a pretty bumpy ride trying to transfer my knowledge over to Illustrator for creating logos and stuff.

Right now, I'm having an issue trying to outline text. I've used 2 different methods, but every time I apply a fill and an offset path to my text, Illustrator decideds to load the offset path again and again after every move I make. If I want to move my text over slightly to get it out of my way, it loads. If I wanna warp my text, it has to load 3 times again. I even tried using the Stroke method under appearances, and it does the same thing.

All I want to do is add an outline/stroke around my text and it seems like the program is having trouble handling it. I'm pretty sure it isn't my PC bottlenecking because everything else runs smoothly, and plus I have a really good gaming rig I built. It should be able to handle it just fine. In fact, when I add another text on the same layer, that text acts fine. No loading or anything. It just happens to freeze and load ONLY when I touch the text that I add strokes/offset paths/ and fills to.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Go to the Performance tab within the Illustrator Preferences. Does turning off GPU Performance help?

No, unfortunately it did not fix the issue. Thank you though.

Hi there,

Thanks for reaching out. In addition to the question asked by Michael in earlier response. Would you mind sharing some more information like:
1. Version of OS and Illustrator.
2. Is it happening with a specific file or with all the files?
3. Do you save files locally or on a network?
4. Have you tried resetting preferences? (If not, please try doing that. You may follow the steps provided on https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/using/setting-preferences.html#setting_illustrator_preferences)

**Please note that resetting preferences will remove all the custom settings and Illustrator will launch with default settings. You can also take a backup of the folders in case you want to. Location is mentioned in the article.

All this information will help us understand the issue and work accordingly.

Regards,
Ashutosh

1. Windows 10 Home and Adobe Illustrator 2020

2. Happening with all files. Specifically with objects I add "Appearance FX" to. I can have a file open with two different types of text/objects, one with a stroke (or fill, etc) and the other with nothing, and the only one it affects is the one with the stroke.

3. I save my files locally on my harddrive.

4. Just tried your suggestion and reseted my preferences. I also tried turning off my GPU settings. Both did not fix the issue.

Please tell us your hardware specs and which other applications are running?

Also: do you have system extensions running? Screen recording apps?

This problem happens no matter if i'm using other applications or not. If something else is open, it's usually Google Chrome, mostly on youtube looking up tutorials. But, as I said before, the problem still happens even when Adobe Illustrator is the only thing open. I checked Photoshop as well, and I can stroke and make outlines on text just fine. Seems to be just an Illustrator issue.
