In Illustrator, when I use the mesh tool and click on Ctrl and on the "eye" layer, the view mode does not work, which allows me to see the mesh, but I do not see the gradient running. Start by turninmg off GPU acceleration in the preferences and then take the usual steps - updating the graphics driver etc..

Can you show screenshots before and after that include the layers panel.
