I am experiencing severe and increasingly worsening copy/paste issues in Adobe Illustrator. Copying and cutting works, but pasting fails almost every time, making normal work impossible. I have tried everything: resetting preferences, restarting Illustrator, using the toolbar buttons instead of shortcuts, disabling GPU performance, testing with and without plugins (Overlord uninstalled), clearing caches, testing scaling and high-DPI monitors, reinstalling Illustrator via Creative Cloud, and even trying older versions. None of these solutions have improved the problem. This issue is persistent and escalating, and it completely prevents reliable workflow. I need a solution, as this behavior is not normal.

In Windiws 11 there are several clipboard related settings that "enhance" the clipboard. Can you turn them off?

Thanks for your reply. There is a clipboard history, and sync option. Both are turned already off.

What exactly are you copying?
How are the clipboard settings in the Illustrator preferences?
Did you already try and boot into Safe Mode? There are so many third party apps that interfere with Illustrator's clipboard handling.

Just vector shapes, anything...
Tried every clipboard setting combination from Illustrator.
Starting Illustrator in safe mode makes no difference. Only plugins I have at the moment are Overlord and Randomill. Uninstalling them makes also no difference.

Illustrator plugins are not causing trouble. But these things have caused trouble for people:

I am not using any clipboard managers, remote desktop tools, or other third-party apps that could interfere with the clipboard, so these can be ruled out as a cause. For now, I am temporarily working on my MacBook where everything works as usual.

Hi @robin-,
Thanks for the detailed update. I'd suggest giving the pinned and marked correct suggestion in this thread a try and checking if the issue still occurs afterward. If it does, please let me know, so I can assist you better.
Looking forward to your update.

Sorry for my late reply. The pinned solution suggests installing the latest updates. My software is fully up to date, but I am still experiencing this issue. I also realize that my problem is slightly different from the issue described by the original poster, though it is somewhat related. My program does not crash, but about 9 out of 10 times I am unable to paste after copying.
*Update: After a hellish two weeks of dealing with Illustrator, I just tested it, and it seems to be working normally again. I hope it continues to do so. I have no idea what caused the issue or why it seems to have resolved itself.

Update 2: Ok, never mind. It still seems very unreliable. I have noticed, however, that some files cause more problems than others. On other devices, it works fine.

Hi robin-
Thank you for trying the suggestion shared. Would you mind telling us if you're on a MacOS or Windows machine? Recently, we have been hearing that the issue is also happening on Mac machines.
Hence, just want to make sure about your operating system to further investigate the issue.
Thanks,
Harshika

Hi, the problems occur on my Windows desktop PC (Windows 11).
On my MacBook, I haven’t experienced any issues so far.

Hello @robin-,
Could you confirm the exact version of the OS/Illustrator currently installed on your PC, and share a link to a sample file you're having trouble with, along with a small screen recording of your exact workflow and the problem, so we can check this with the team?
Also, our team has made some improvements to fix an issue similar to yours. Could you try installing the latest Illustrator (Beta) and sharing your observations?
Looking forward to hearing from you.

Hi Anubhav,
I’m currently running:
Windows 11, 24h2 (os build 2600.6584)
Illustrator version 29.8.1
I also installed the Illustrator Beta (version 30.0) and tested it, but it still seems unreliable for me.
I’ve attached a video demonstrating the issue. Normally, I work with shortcuts, but to make the problem clearer I used the menu buttons instead. As you can see, the file is very simple and lightweight, so that should not be the issue. Let me know if you need something else.
