Problems with zoom shortcut in Illustrator

I've been using Adobe Illustrator since 1999, and for the first time, I'm seriously considering switching tools. Who in their right mind removes the steering wheel from the driver and locks it in the glove compartment? This is, without a doubt, the most disastrous version ever released! The software feels completely rigid, with usability utterly decimated. You've altered fundamental shortcuts like zoom and navigation—without even providing the option to customize them! I’ll be exploring alternatives. Kudos to the team responsible for this mess, which was likely designed by people who clearly aren't real designers

The zoom shortcut - you are referring to space+cmd, right?

It's used by the system for the Search. It's most convenient to disable the system shortcut.

If it's still not working, then most probably you have something running that interferes with the modifier keys. Here is a list of apps that have been identified by dozens of people on this forum to do that.

  • WhatsApp on the web being the active tab in the browser
  • WebRoot
  • Apple Terminal
  • Word, Excel, Powerpoint
  • »Enable Full Keyboard« in Settings > Accessibility > Keyboard on Mac OS
  • »Keyboard Navigation« in Apple settings > Keyboard
  • Apple Mail, Outlook
  • Spacebar is used as a shortcut by the system
  • Chrome, Internet Explorer, Safari
  • Wacom Desktop Center, Wacom settings
  • Windows Touch Pad problem
  • LastPass, Bitwarden (password managers)
  • The VPN
  • LangSwitcher app (it needs to be closed and disabled)
  • Notes

If you have one of those running, turn it off before launching Illustrator.

Which shortcut does not work for you anymore?

Zoom has not changed and pan hasn't either.

What exactly does not work anymore and please tell us details about your system, hardware and file.
