Product box design (Die cuts + Software)

Hello,

I’m hoping someone could help me with a project – I’m looking to create a box to be printed.

it’s dimensions are 240w x 80d x 30h

The trouble is I have no idea how to create a die cut easily which a print would find useful, nor do I know the best software to help create and design the box.

My gut is telling me to design it in illustrator but I can’t help but think Adobe’s Dimensions was intended for this sort of thing?

This is a personal project, so I don’t want to pay anyone to do this – I wish to learn myself so any help is appreciated.

If this is meant for printing more than 1 and you want to do more with it than giving to your best friend for birthday, then don't do this on your own. Period.

You have to take production and material (thickness, fibers) into account as well as whatever goes into the box (it needs to be robust enough to hold it) or transport.

There are people who are specialized to do this.

Some printers offer standardized packaging that you can then decorate with your design. THat would be an alternative.

It's a personal project, not specifically for a birthday so i don't want to pay someone to create it for me.

As stated, i wish to learn how to achieve this.

Creating the diecut is an engineering job.

Designing the packaging is a design job.

In order to make functional packaging you will always need both.
