Proportionate Scale Tool

Can't seem to make anything scale proportionate anymore. Used to be able to hold SHIFT on PC and use the Scale Tool. Now it scales disproportionately.

Are you sure you shift key is working? Whichever Shift key you're using, try the other Shift key.

Are smart guides turned on? They don't play well with the shift key.

Hi, if you have active smart guides, I advise you to disable them, so that you can use the Shift key.

Does one turn those off by going to View>Smart Guides and making sure they are off. If so it doesn't help.

Then your issue might be caused by

1. keyboard issues

2. a general failue (when was your last computer restart)?

3. some application (most likely a browser) "stealing" the modification keypress. Can you close all other apps and launch only Illustrator?

Have you tried NOT holding the shift key down when trying to scale? Some users had an issue in Photoshop and this resolved it.

Hi

Try:

  • Shift with the Move tool (instead of scale)
  • Use the Scale dialog (with Preview enabled) with the Proportional setting (top)
  • Use the Transform panel with the link enabled to change the Width and Height together
