Q: previewing illustrator files (.ai) off NAS?

Hi there. I am in the process of setting a Synology NAS to store my work files including a large number of illustrator files. Does anyone know of a way of previewing files off the NAS, so I can pick the ones to download and open on my mac? Similar to the way you can single click on a mac list and see a preview.

PS: I am on a synology but if there brand or platform, I'd like to hear about it.

Maybe you can use Adobe Bridge to preview the files?

i belive he was looking for the same like me to view them throw the web interface. so there is no need for on computer software and we can do Digital Asset Management on the synology itself

Illustrator is open almost 24/7 and just about the same for Bridge and Photoshop

Not sure what you are hoping to find. Such functions are part of the operating system, not the hardware, if at all. It won't work any different than from a local drive, meaning it's totally dependent on whether aour AI's have PDF compatible content so your OS can generate thumbnails and store them on the drive or not.

Thanks for the response. I'm trying to off load files to a NAS. The synology NAS is actually a modified linux OS box (like most of them are), and there actually is a pdf viewer app that runs on the NAS box but it is pretty rudimentary and does not recognize ai files as pdf compatible. I was hoping someone had experience with NAS and could suggest a way to preview. The synology is actually pretty cool, you can even run a website off it, among other things and setup your own cloud server......
