Question

"Can't Print Illustration"

Since the last Windows update (last week) I've had issues with Creative Cloud Illustrator.

I reset my laptop to the last version of Windows 10 - before the update.

I've restarted the laptop multiple times.

I've tried the 'rasterize' your file thing.

Used the Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool.

Uninstalled and reinstalled multiple times.

Every hour I waste playing with this is an hour I'm not working.

The only issue that remains is when I try to print a file it acts like it will print - but then I get a warning "Can't Print Illustration".

Can save as a pdf and print that. Can start a new artboard and print that plain artboard.

Still can't print files that I've been able to print all along, even if they just have a text box.

Can't get into chat or get a phone number to call so this is my only option.

I appreciate any help.

Thank you

Hey, all...

The issue was resolved with the last Windows update!!

I can once again print directly from Illustrator. Hopefully the problem has been resolved for everyone who posted.

Thank you!!

I have the same error message on all Adobe products. AI, Photoshop, Acrobat. Can't print the illustration since last Windows XP update

Monika, I did it. I add my comment because the error not only appears after windows 10 update, also windows XP update and not only in AI, all products.

Following this as I am having the same issue. Same thing - everything worked fine with my HP printers until Windows update. Doesn't happen when I print from other programs - Word, etc.

Many people have had problems printing since the new Windows 10 update both in InDesign and Illustrator. Apparently Microsoft has replaced the older postscript printer driver with a new PCL printer driver. There have been some reports that reinstalling a postscript driver has fixed the problem.

This happened to me as well. Somehow my printer selection was corrupted. Not a CC issue. I selected another printer profile (same printer) and it printed.

Suggest deleting and reinstalling your printer driver.

Zapman-

Deleting and reinstalling my print driver was one of the first things I tried. Didn't help with my situation. Grateful it helped with yours, and possibly others will be helped as well.

Thank you.

Printing will go wrong when:

Your printer uses a Version 4 driver (most PostScript printers use Version 3 PSCRIPT5.DLL-based drivers).
and: Your content uses an OpenType CFF font (as opposed to TrueType).

Microsoft already has a fix for that, but has not yet released it.

I'm having the same issue. Very frustrating. Has anyone helped you? Printed fine forever and then all of a sudden got the "Can't Print Illustration" message.

Which version of Illustrator?

In the last WIndows update, Microsoft installed a new version of their PCL printer driver. See last post in this thread: After Windows 10 Update, I can't print!

As for PostScript, please see: PostScript - Wikipedia

The printer driver needs to support PostScript in order to print from Illustrator.

I am having the exact same problems.  Just came home from vacation, opened my usual files to print, sent them to the printer, and it looks for a second like it's sending it to print, then BAM "Can't print illustration."  And this is the only information we get - no error code, no nothing.  I've reinstalled Windows, reinstalled Illustrator, restarted the computer multiple times, and nothing.  These are all files I was using and printing from last week.  It has to be something with an update in the last 9 days.

Windows 10, Illustrator CS6?

Hello, I am having the exact same issue. And I just went through the process of completely reloading my system (PC, Windows 10 Pro 64-bit) from the ground up, wiped the hard drive, fresh install of Windows 10 Pro v1803 (latest version with install of all the latest updates), fresh install of Creative Cloud and fresh install of the latest versions of all programs... opened up Illustrator for the first time, loaded a file that I had been working on with no issues before the system crash, went to print and seems like it is sending to the printer and then error message 'Can't Print Illustration' with no other explanation. I am experiencing the same issues as the initiator of this string Lucyf4822314, I can save as PDF and then open the PDF file in Acrobat and print, I can start a new drawing in Illustrator and print from that with no problem, but I cannot seem to open any pre-existing Illustrator artwork and get it to print directly from Illustrator. I did open an eps file and printed that directly from Illustrator, I then saved it as an Illustrator file, closed it then opened it and it printed fine. I have even opened Illustrator files which I received from other designers on past jobs--same issue, seems like it is sending to printer but then error message 'Can't Print Illustration'

Sorry to hear you're having the same issues, Derik.

Initially I also had issues with the arrow keys moving diagrams and text boxes across the page instead of just a pixel at a time. Thankfully that was fixed by reloading Illustrator.

I deleted all other printers as suggested somewhere.

Looking at some threads on HP, it looks like my printer doesn't support PostScript (still have no idea what that means) - although it always printed my .ai documents fine before the Windows update.

I have tried changing the files to .eps and .pdf and the files won't print as long as I'm still working from Illustrator. If I open the pdf outside of Illustrator it will print.

It's a few more steps, but I'm ready to give up for now and just save everything as a pdf and print it that way.

I appreciate all the help and am still open to suggestions.

Thank you.

Are you getting any error messages when you try to print?

Error message is "Can't Print Illustration" - sorry that was my subject line, but I failed to include it in the message.

Lucy,

My guess is that it is a Windows update/failed downdate issue, it seems that the latest is unlucky.

Illustrator not working after windows 10 update

I have tried to alert a friend that might have the right connexions to ask those at Moicrosoft to pull their socks up.

Is your Creative Cloud Illustrator the most up to date version (22.1)? If not, try updating that as well.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled Illustrator several times over the past few days. It should be the most recent version since I last installed it a couple of hours ago.

Did you also check for updates for the printer driver?

Maybe reset it or reinstall it?

Did you contact the printer manufacturer if their device or printer driver is compatible with the latest Windows update?

I reset, uninstalled, re-installed the printer - then restarted computer. Still the same issue. Adobe chat - that was their only suggestion after they had me uncheck GPU performance under the rocket icon on Illustrator.

When I print it shows in the print queue status as 'spooling' but then quickly disappears and never shows status as printing. Then it doesn't print.

What kind of printer is that?

A PostScript enabled one? Since it prints from Acrobat, it sounds like some issues with PostScript.
