" ~ " symbol appearing

When I tried to edit Text box in Adobe Illustrator, this " ~ " symbol automatically entered inside the box where the blinking line is there.

I tried with multiple system thought of hardware issue. But it is still appearing

What is your Illustrator and OS versions?
Does it happen with Photoshop too?
Could you try resetting the software preferences and see if it fixes this issue?

- Windows users: Press and hold Alt+Control+Shift as you start Illustrator.

- macOS users: Option+Command+Shift as you start Illustrator.
Also check your keyboard.

I have tried to add space in these text box.

As soon as I clicked spacebar key, this symbol automatically pops up inside the text box.

And you are really sure that there aren't running any plugins in your Illustrator version? This looks like generated by some custom stuff.

Try

  • changing to a different font
  • copying and pasting into a fresh ned illustrator document.
  • making sure you are not working win a an English version of an illustrator with standard language settings
  • rest you prefs

I'm not changing any fonts.
Just creating new Text box and try to add text.

Sorry to hear about this experience. Would you mind trying to restart your computer in Safe Mode and then relaunching Illustrator to check if it helps?
