"Replace all" with Illustrator v29.0

Community Beginner ,
Nov 12, 2024 Nov 12, 2024

I have 10 files with the same link in the illustrator file, the name of the link image file is “480_F_503906393_YrrW2lWOCpsBzjQRATfuNoTnhP.jpg”

Because the file name is too long and does not have a good association, I changed the file name to be easy to remember “little girl.jpg”

When renaming the file, the illustrator file reported Missing Link, I performed Replace > selected the link image named "little girl.jpg" and clicked Search for Missing Links in This Folder > clicked the Replace button.

But I had to repeat the above operation up to 10 times, while with the previous version I only needed to perform Replace all once with the new file to automatically update the files.

Hello @SaY,_3377,

Sorry to hear about your experience. Would you mind sharing more details like the OS version and if the option for Search for Missing Links in This Folder (https://adobe.ly/4eyC1RM) was checked when relinking the file?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

ITS IN THERE!.... Just moved!

1) Select "REPLACE" -

2) Browse to your folder and select the file you need first. Once selected, if you have the OPTIONS button selected, you can click - "Search missing links in this folder." at the bottom of that finder window you're in.

Worked perfect!

THAT'S A BINGO!

That only works when you locate the original missing link.

What it does not do is replace it by a different file, which is what a lot of users want to swap quickly many images by another one.

Interesting.... Why not rename the file to match the one needing to be replaced?

Did Illustrator EVER do that?

Yes it is a common workflow, replacing a file by another.

That is a messy workaround, you could end up with many different images with the same name on your hard disk.
