"You do not have enough access privileges. ID: -5000". Unable to save Ai & PDF file in Illustrator

Adobe illustrator does not save for me.  I've tried all the suggestions listed here but says I don't have enough access privileges.  I have a subscription to Creative Cloud.  What is wrong?

I have the same problem now, after upgrading to v28.0.

Hi @forebrain,

It seems like you're facing issues saving your template files after upgrading to Illustrator v28.0. This issue can sometimes be related to access privileges on your system.

First and foremost, Monika's input is correct. You cannot directly save files in certain restricted locations within the application or system folders.

Here's a suggestion to resolve this problem:

  • Try saving your files in a different location, such as a work folder.

  • Make sure that Illustrator has the necessary permissions to save files on your disk. You may need to grant Illustrator the appropriate rights to avoid this issue. Typically, saving directly in certain application folders or system-protected areas can be restricted. It's best practice to save your work in user folders or designated project directories.

If you're still having trouble, you can check this link to a screen recording I made, which walks you through the process of granting Illustrator the necessary permissions to save the template in the Application's default location: Screen Recording Link

I hope this helps you resolve the problem. Please feel free to reach out if you have any further questions or encounter any issues.

Best regards,

Anshul Saini

Hi there,

Sorry about the trouble. You may try logging in to Root Account. If you are able to save files in the root account, then the issue could be related to user account permission to that folder, file, or drive. You may follow the steps shared in this help article (https://support.apple.com/en-in/guide/mac-help/mchlp1203/mac) to give permission to read and write access to the drive or folder in which you want to save your file and let us know how it goes.

Looking forward to your response.

Thanks & Regards,

Anshul Saini
