random unfix able file damage

yesterday I was working on my ist assignment in adobe illustraitor and I saved the file and everything was working fine. today when i go to work on it some more this message popped up: 

Illustraitor could not open this file.

we tried to read it, but it was too damaged to recover

help us figure out what happend by emailing this file to file@adobe.com

so i searched around on youtube and offical adobe websites and i couldn't find any awnser to my problem. the assignment is due in 2 weeks and i don't want to restart because i would be losing 8+ hours on the assignment, please help.

You might not get it back very quickly though.
