I have an image that I need to remove the checkered background so I can place it on top of another image. I am new at Illustrator but I do have some experience with it by messing around with it etc. Any help is greatly appreciated. Soccer Ball Net.jpg

This checkered image occurs in two cases.

1- Close the Transparency Grid in the View panel.

2- Stock images have such images. You can check the layers. If the image is unified or not, you can do this by making Ungroup until the background is selected. Then you can delete it if possible.

For someone looking for the right answer.

Edit -> Edit Original. (delete the checkered layer)

PS. Simple. Have seen annoying people who don't have the answer to this but are quick with the "You need to take lessons ...blah..blah"/silly berating. Now you know...Proud of you for not giving up. Keep learning! Cheers

"For someone looking for the right answer."

There is no single "Right" answer to this question.

Depending on how the file has been built, the correct answer can be quite different.

Ad obviously for this case it actually is (because the correct answer has been given years ago).

I am needing help as well. There is no checkered layer for me to delete. and my edit original box is gray and I can't click on it. I have several images that I can't remove the checkered background from. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. The suggested fixes did not work for my images.

Without seeing your files this is impossible to solve.

Take a look at the layers panel. Everything that can be deleted will show up there.

One case of chequered backgrounds can be solved like so:

Due to stock companies' ancient file requirements, clip arts with glow effects might be a daunting experience. About this channel: My name is Monika Gause and on this channel I'll be showing tipps and tricks on Adobe Illustrator and other graphics applications. For more than 10 years I've been ...

"Without seeing your files this is impossible to solve." - IT typical answer.

Here's the actual (simple) solution: Preferences>Page Display>Show transparancy grid (snips below)

Yeah, sure. As you might have seen, what you consider the correct answer has even been marked sas the correct answer 5 years ago. But maybe my answer triggered you (for whatever reason). As you have seen, there is another answer "delete the checkered layer". There are a lot of threads in this forum in which that actually is the correct answer. Just research them, I'll wait.

So there are two correct answers for the checkered problem and they hugely depend on the individual case and for that we need to see screenshots.
