Hello. I'm in the process of learning Illustrator and I was wondering if anyone knows of a way for me to remove the overlap in the provided image. The shape builder doesn't seem to do the trick around these rounded edges. Is there another tool I'm not familiar with yet? Thank you.

There are multiple ways to do this, but the approach I would take is expanding the strokes on those lines and then extending the ends of the resulting shapes a little farther past the edge of the circle. Then the shape builder tool (or other Pathfinder operations) would work more predictably then.

Extending the strokes as Bobby worte. And then you need to either outline the strokes (and then use Pathfinder, Live Paint, Shapebuilder) or use a clipping mask (without the need to outline strokes)
